​​Core worked with CNA Hardy to standardise processes and increase cohesion between departments​

CNA Hardy is a leading specialist commercial insurance provider for customers within the Lloyd's and company markets. Part of CNA Financial Corporation, one of the largest U.S. commercial property and casualty insurance companies, CNA Hardy has 500+ employees across the UK, Continental Europe and Asia. Established at Lloyd's for over 40 years with its management of and participation in Lloyd's syndicate 382. CNA Hardy offers specialist and market sector leading underwriting expertise in its key lines of Property, Casualty, Marine, Energy, Healthcare, and Specialty business both on a direct and reinsurance basis. 

Standarisation of multiple systems into one view of controls for the underwriting staff and management

CNA Hardy's Lloyd's platform underwriting processes had evolved over time and tailored to specific lines of business, meaning underwriting staff had to use multiple systems. This made it difficult to ensure controls were standardised across different teams.The aim was to introduce a new underwriting workflow that would sit across the existing Lloyd's platform systems and processes to provide a standardised view of the controls for the underwriting staff and management.

Creating a unique workflow to deliver the solution

CNA Hardy worked with Core to develop a unique workflow system which was built using Microsoft SharePoint and K2 Workflows. In order to capture CNA Hardy's requirements, Core facilitated a number of workshops and analysis sessions.These allowed Core to fully understand what CNA Hardy needed from each stage of the project and ensure there were no gaps and errors in the system provided. Having reviewed CNA Hardy's requirements it was decided that the system would be built using a mixture of SharePoint and K2 to implement an easy to use, functional platform that would streamline workflows, speed up processes and simplify tasks.  


Utilising the best of both SharePoint and K2 would allow users to interact with the system via SharePoint as well as offering cohesion between existing CNA Hardy internal components and other valuable external systems, ensuring a streamlined and joined up approach across the platform. By implementing K2 alongside the bespoke SharePoint portal, Core was able to transform it into a meaningful workflow system that not only standardises processes but also reduces the daily administrative burden.  Utilising K2 Smart Objects and Smart Forms to interact with a purpose built SQL database that stores the CNA Hardy Underwriting Business Data, has led to a faster and more streamlined admin console and exception processes, simplifying key processes and systems.  Users can also create calls to action and reminders across all divisions and teams, simplifying reporting and highlighting responsibilities. 


Finally, Core have worked with CNA Hardy to create a portal which uses web parts to complete and embed the system.  The first page presents a dashboard which is broken into two sections showing both task views at the top and policy views at the bottom.  This provides a tool to support the proactive management of each division with a cohesion between departments that did not exist previously and highlights bottle necks and presents data in a uniformed and easy to read format.
